The XS Kids campaign

Imagine that kids with Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Downs Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy etc have the right tool, a device that actually allows them to be engaged in life, prevent numerous orthopedic surgeries, be at eye level and be able to keep up with their friends?

And imagine, that over their lifetime, they would only need 2, maximum 3 times a new device

So many children with Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Downs Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy etc, often have to "walk at all cost" so they can look as "normal" as possible. Causing major issues for the joints, resulting in surgeries and decreasing mobility as they grow older, often resulting in having to use a wheelchair. And there is nothing wrong with wheelchairs, but if you can avoid using one and staying active without damaging your joints, wouldn't that be great.... well.... that is possible!

Why an Alinker and how it is different from anything else:

These are the observations from a world-renowned pediatric Physio Therapist specialized in kids with cerebral palsy:

Many assistive devices meet the need of adult and pediatric patients to get them upright and going from Point A to Point B, but this device is truly different.

What is different in the Alinker:

  1. The Center of Mass (CoM) of the body correct, with the trunk is placed in the correct alignment to load the limbs.
  2. The trunk is kept upright when using the Alinker.
  3. The Alinker aids walking, but the patient must self-initiate gait.
  4. Nothing impedes the limbs since it allows a correct gait pattern: there is room for heel initial contact and for a trailing limb posture pre-swing to maintain, or improve, hip range of motion.
  5. Due to the above design elements, the patient’s trunk becomes stronger, which is essential to make progress.  It is not only an assistive device, but a rehabilitative device, which is the only one I could ever recommend since I want my patients to improve while upright.

She closes with: There is no other device on the market that meets these needs.

Cerebral Palsy

Caitlin

Caitlin, age 19 has Cerebral Palsy and lives in South Africa. She has used an Alinker since 6 months and the atrophy in her legs disappeared and she ‘grew’ by 6 inches in total length, her posture improved, she is much stronger now, enjoying life.  She cannot imagine life without her Alinker.

Leukodystrophy

Luca

Luca, age 13 has Leukodystrophy and lives in South Australia.

He got the XS prototype 4 years ago and it saved his life as he was close to being bedridden. Since he has the Alinker he is out and active, his joints do not suffer from collapsing, his body doesn’t seize up and he has built strength and is included at school.

Cancer

Fritz

Fritz from the United States is 18yrs old and was diagnosed with cancer.

Fritz has undergone many treatments that left his body weak and compromised. Since he found the Alinker a year ago, he is out and active, happy and rebuilding his healthy body.

Cerebral Palsy

Haven

Haven, age 23 has Cerebral Palsy and lives in Canada.

Haven often felt excluded as she could not keep up with her friends, since she found the Alinker she takes it everywhere and people now need to keep up with her.

Down Syndrome

Eva

Eva, age 15, has Down Syndrome and lives in The Netherlands

Eva was "walking at all cost" which resulted in a series of orthopaedic surgeries in the near future. Uses the Alinker since one year and…She no longer needs pain medication.

The orthopaedic surgeries are no longer needed or at least averted for years to come. She is the cool kid in her school, able to participate in all activities. She is happy, fast and her feeling of self worth has grown substantially

In just one year, her life transformed as she moves on her own, regaining control over her day-to-day activities and rediscovering her independence.
